There has recently been a new virus called Covid-19, also known as, the Coronavirus. This outbreak has affected the health of humans and sociality. Covid-19 has also impacted the environment. It has helped the air quality and pollution, bodies of water, and wildlife.
Before this global pandemic and lockdown, many countries and states were dealing with pollution and poor air quality. This was caused by different transportations including, cars, buses, motorcycles, etc. As the virus got worse, leaders decided to put states and countries under lockdown. During the lockdown, many people were instructed to stay home and only go out if necessary. This helped the pollution decrease in many places. In California, during this lockdown, they have seen the best air quality in years, as well as New York. The air quality is also getting better in China where Covid-19 and the outbreak started.
Not only is the air getting cleaner and clearer, but different waterways around the world are too. Canals specifically in Venice, Italy, are looking a lot clearer than before the Covid-19 lockdown. This is because fewer people are on boats. Boats can affect the sediments in the canals which makes the water cloudier and not clear. During the days of quarantine, bodies of water have become clearer and now you can see marine animals.
Since the outbreak of Coronavirus, the wildlife has been invading streets. Although wild animals may not be invading your city, they have entered several cities in Asia. In Japan, sika deer's have entered streets. They have been searching for food because they were used to being fed by tourists mainly from China and South Korea. However, they cannot get food because of the lockdown. A similar situation occurred in Thailand but instead of sika deer's, there were monkeys. These monkeys fought each other because of the limited food found on the streets.
In conclusion, this recent virus, Covid-19, has benefits for the environment. Covid-19 has improved many different environmental issues. Even if most of the issues are not fully improved, they still have gotten better. "Maybe this Virus is Mother Earth putting us in time-out for a while.... while she cleans up the mess we made," Elisabetta Cappellari says. Overall, Coronavirus has impacted the environment.
