Masks are one more thing you should add to your shopping cart and here is why. Masks can prevent people from getting the virus. If you cannot afford them right now there are people that are donating them in your community right now! If your feeling generous enough you can be the donator and make masks or give money // materials to make them!
I know many different organizations that are donating masks. One I know very well is the Atlantic Street Center, I have been going to their programs for almost two years now. The staff and Kinship program have volunteers that make masks for people in the community. I am also one of those people, so far, I have made about 20 masks and am planning on making more. Another organization is Weneedmasks.org. We need masks is a great organization as well.
You can help in your community even with a donation, you could do this by donating money or even the left-over fabric scraps from your last DIY. You could reach out to we need masks, Atlantic Street Center or even on the neighborhood app or your community Facebook group. Many craft stores like Hobby Lobby, and Michael's are making videos on how to make face masks. In my case it usually takes about 30 minutes per mask. People are donating masks every day, maybe you could be one of those people.
You might think that you are the king (or queen) of the world and that your immune to the virus by wearing a mask. Although that sounds amazing, that is not the case. Wearing a mask will not protect you from getting the virus but it will protect other people. Therefore, big facilities such as Costco, Hospitals, Nursing homes and anywhere else that people could be compromised it is necessary to wear a face mask.
As you can see there is no excuse to not have a mask; there are many great recourses available for everybody. Whether you donate or receive you are still part of a change. By abiding by the guidelines of the facilities above you could be saving thousands of lives. We need to help make a change so that our lives can go back to normal.
