"Divergent" Movie Review by Marissa

“Divergent” is a fascinating film starring Shailene Woodley as Beatrice Prior the film is directed by Neil Burger. The box office received 288.9 million USD. Divergent came to theaters on March 21, 2014. This film had received both negative and positive feedback, but the popularity of the film gave audiences a look into what a futuristic world is about. Chicago, Illinois is the city where Divergent takes place. The version of Chicago in Divergent is set in the future and is worn out. The citizens are divided up into five factions, each faction is divided up and based on people’s personalities. Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the kind), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless), and Candor (the honest). On a certain day every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select a faction to be a part of for the rest of their life, after taking a placement test. We follow our main character (Beatrice Prior) and see her make her decisions for one of the five factions. However, after getting her placement test back she discovers that she can fit into more than one faction. She is warned to conceal her status.

How do you know if this movie is for you? If you are a fan of action and sci-fi than this is just right for you. However, if you prefer a feel-good movie or a comedy than this is not the right choice for you. Divergent is full of sci-fi and is action-packed. Here are a couple of reasons on why Divergent may not be the right film for you: This film does contain violence, there are some scenes where characters fight and occasionally will have blood. One other reason is that this movie is based on the book. Some people may think that the book did not fully embody the book.

On the other hand, if you like these types of movies then here are some reasons why you should watch this. Reason 1: There is a ton of suspense in this film. Which makes you want to learn more about each and every character and thing. Reason 2: This movie has a fantastic plotline. This film has very good leading events. Reason 3: If you’re a fan of the book/film Hunger Games than this perfect for you. This film has very similar elements to it. It is similar but they do have differences.

However, this movie does have similarities to the film Hunger Games. These two films both have a strong female leader. In Divergent, our main character is Beatrice and in Hunger Games the main character is Katniss. They both play the role of a female, who is very strong, brave, and will stick up for what is right. As well as, having both settings for each movie set on Earth. One other similarity that the movies have is having separate living styles. (Districts and factions)

Overall, Divergent is a great movie. Its action-packed had has so much to offer. I love how the directors and producers were able to bring this movie to life. I feel that the actors did an incredible job embodying the characters. I would recommend this movie to my friends and family. I give this movie a thumbs-up for everything.
