Watch out and make sure you keep an eye out for your mail. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, many people do not have jobs. Without their jobs, people cannot provide for their loved ones. With the government sending stimulus checks, groups of mailbox thieves are determined to reach out to those checks before the owners do.
Some people were lucky and had the money sent to their bank accounts. Others were not so lucky. Beware that it could happen at any time in the day. Checking on the mailbox would be ideal to make sure it does not happen. All though, mailbox theft has been going on before COVID-19 started. The rate of mailbox theft will start to raise higher.
I asked Mike who got his mail stolen, how he felt about the mail theft and he said, "they have broken into our mailbox three times in the past two weeks. The first time they had broken into it, they stole something that had confidential information. The thieves can steal important credentials and use our personal information. He had to replace the locks, and he filed a report to the police to inform them that our mail had been stolen. From now on, we are getting the mail right after the mailman drops it off.”
As COVID-19 carries on, people will start to get desperate. Cases just like Mike, will start to appear more often. We haven't seen the peak of all of this, we can just hope that it starts to go downhill from here. Watch out for mail thieves and be sure to check up on your mail from time to time.
